There are many challenges facing community-based organizations and academic medical centers in reaching out to each other to build true collaborative partnerships. Building true partnerships requires understanding the historical and cultural barriers that have impeded such partnerships. The UCSF Center of Excellence has teamed up with Johnson & Johnson to offer an academic-community partnership program that explores the challenges, opportunities and power of strong academic-community partnerships. This program aims to enhance the progress of creating a new paradigm of academic-community partnerships.
