A resounding success! The public hearing and scientific workshop to update the NIH Women’s Health Research Agenda held May 27–29, 2009 at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus
The Office of Research on Women’s Health/NIH/DHHS, the UCSF Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health hosted the second in a series of four public hearings and scientific workshops to update the NIH Women’s Health Research Agenda for the coming decade. Over 350 people registered and participated during the three day event, a balanced program presenting visionary work across the spectrum of women's health research.

The conference hosts heard a diversity of input from a variety of stakeholder groups including researchers, clinicians, patients, advocacy groups, community organizations, and industry. In addition, many program officers and leaders from NIH Institutes and Centers actively participated in the event. Stakeholder commentary regarding all areas related to women's health research was represented by an array of speakers at the public hearing. In addition, the conference addressed specific Focus Areas related to women's health. On the third day of the conference, a representative from each working group presented their top recommendations to the director of the ORWH, Dr. Vivian W. Pinn and those assembled.
All ideas and recommendations gathered during this conference will be used to formulate future ORWH and NIH funding priorities, including the development of new programs, grants, and requests for applications (RFAs). The results from this and the three other regional meetings will be released in the form of a report in time to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the ORWH in September 2010.
